I get the feeling that when Tolstoy speaks of the good of all man he doesn’t have the French in mind.

And to be fair, War and Peace is very nationalistic and could be read as straight Russian patriotic propaganda were it not also for its underlying humanity and astute observations on all human nature. Still, I’m conflicted by this blatant nationalism.
