This is another one of those books where I can’t remember how I discovered it but has become a wonderful surprise.

The book begins with the recounting of how Stephan Bagrov founded his new home in the east, brought his whole family and all the serfs with him and set up a new life.

Though this is a memoir of a family member and is romanticized, it is stunningly beautiful – especially the ‘good day’.
