With such a big book you’d expect to have no plot point or character struggle skimmed over, yet that’s what we get with Count Rostov. His life has been ruined behind him, and kindly and good as he was, he was also irresponsible with money and has left his family in a terrible state. And so as his life passes into irrelevance, so to does the focus Tolstoy pays him. Very interesting.
