I never paid attention before to how much hunting plays a role in the novel, both figuratively and literally. Tolstoy also repeats the imagery of clockwork (machinery) that is far too complex for a person to understand. This is a much more nuanced religious argument than the standard clock-maker of the universe since he’s now saying how the universe was made, but only how it works and how complex its parts are.
