We get another brief but telling look into the world of peasant “master” relationships. Here Daniel, the hunt master, believes himself superior to everyone, but is also uncomfortable being inside the house and especially around the young women. He lives for the hunt and that’s all he knows o cares about. The wink he gives Nicholas as an answer is telling, too in that it’s a very human thing to do.
