I don’t like hunting, and I could never kill an animal, but I love this chapter. This is the genius of great writing (and Tolstoy) because you live as the characters do, not as yourself.

Funny how it’s the serf, Daniel, who finally gets the wolf down, but then Tolstoy also writes Daniel’s action as being very animal-like, just like the dogs.

I love Nicholas asking God to help him, just as we all would.
