Even all his terrible advice that would probably kill Mr. Casaubon if acted upon is good-natured and well-meaning, if a little thin in its intellectual stimulation (which, ironically, is what Mr. Casaubon actually should take up – man can’t live on bread alone).

Lydgate, of course, sees more opportunities to be a brilliant doctor.
