085:

“a knyght withoute mercy ys withoute worship” is a key theme all through the book. Gawayne grants the knight mercy and tells him to go to Arthur’s court. However, Gawayne and Gaherys are attacked by 4 knights who are pissed at dishonorable Gawayne and he is wounded “wondirly sore”

084:

The stag is killed by another knight who also kills two of the hounds. Not sure if these greyhounds are Gawayne’s? Anyway, he fights this knight and wins and is about to kill him but the knight begs for mercy. Gawayne is having none of it and the knight’s lady runs out to save her man and Gawayne accidentally cuts off her head.

083:

Gawayne wants no brother vs brother strife here (civil war) and he tells the 2 knights to let Arthur decide whom shall have the favor of the adventure. This is the law of the state in action, order being restored. Gawayne is also going after the stag and hounds but a knight blocks his way across a river. They fight. The other knight dies.

079-080:

Cowherde’s wife is sent for (lineage test). Turns out this wife was a lady who got pregnant by a knight and was forced to marry a cowherd out of shame (pregnancy / affair out of wedlock). We know this because she had had a greyhound, and only wealthy people would ever have a dog like this. Turns out the dad is Pellynor. Torre is made a knight before Gawayne and this pisses him off (he feels slighted)
